Top Ten Local Phrases

When you are in Brazil it is helpful to know some few essential phrases in Brazilian Porugese.Here are the top ten phrases.

Number 10: If you want to ask a taxidriver to stop you say:"Pode parar aqui", -You can stop here.

Number 9: If you have to go to the bathrom you ask: "Onde e baheiro" - Where is the toilet?

Number 8: When shopping and you want to know the price you ask "Quanto custa?" - How much is it?

Number 7: If you want to ask somebody if they speak English you say: "Voce fala Ingles?" -Do you speak English?

Number 6: When adressing people you can use "Senhor" for Mr. and Senora for Mrs. If it is someone you age you can either call them by their first name or use the term "Morso" if it i a man or mosso if it is a woman.

Numer 5: In case of an emergany you can say " Socorro" -Help!

Number 4: If you want to say good morning you say "Bom dia" Good afteroon is "Boa tarde" Good evening or good night you say "Boa noite"

Number 3: For apolgizing you would say "Me Desculpa"

Number 2: If you want to say thank you, you would say " obrigada" if you are female or "obrigado" if you are mail.

Number 1:The top phrase is "Oi", which means hello.

Remember that people here geerally understand Spanish, but they prefer that you speak to them in their language - Brazilian Portugese.
